In 2006, at age 21, Sean Morsi founded MOR Financial with a simple thesis: if you control origination, underwriting, funding, and servicing, you can deliver better outcomes for both borrowers and investors.
Two decades and $650M+ later, that thesis has proven out through every market cycle — including the 2008 financial crisis, when MOR funded through the worst downturn in modern history while most competitors shut their doors.
Founded on Conviction
At 21 years old, Sean Morsi made a bet that most people twice his age wouldn't take: he founded his own mortgage company.
Sean saw firsthand the inefficiencies that plagued the lending industry. Deals passed through too many hands. Decisions took too long. Borrowers and investors were treated as numbers on a spreadsheet, not partners in a transaction.
MOR Financial was built on a different thesis: vertical integration equals better outcomes. By controlling origination, underwriting, funding, and servicing under one roof, Sean could eliminate the friction, cut the timelines, and deliver a level of accountability that brokers and banks couldn't match.
That thesis wasn't popular in 2006. Two years later, it would prove prescient.
2008: While Others Closed, We Funded.
The 2008 financial crisis wiped out banks, shuttered lenders, and froze credit markets across the country. MOR Financial kept lending.
While competitors retreated, MOR stayed active — funding deals, protecting investor capital, and proving that a disciplined, relationship-driven model could survive the worst economic downturn in modern history.
This wasn't luck. It was the direct result of conservative underwriting, real skin in the game, and a refusal to chase volume over quality. The same principles that guided MOR through 2008 continue to guide every loan decision today.
